When to use short term or long term magic workings

When I think about applying practical magic to my life to effect change and get results, there’s usually two purposes that such workings are applied to. The first purpose is to solve a problem that has come up in your life. You need a solution, and magic is a means of obtaining that solution and resolving the problem. The second purpose is that you’re trying to design your life and you’ve decided to apply magic to that life design in order to help you achieve it. I also consider this to be short term vs. long term magical workings.

Short term magical workings are typically reactive, one off workings you do to solve a problem that’s come up in your life. They can be useful workings that help you resolve the problem, but there’s not a lot of planning put into them, and they really are suited for the short term, because it’s all about reacting to the situation and trying to either contain, mitigate or resolve it in your favor.

A long term magical approach is proactive and based around achieving long term goals and designs. It’s a proactive magical working and its usually not done as a one off working. Instead you continuously replicate the working to build the strength of it, while softening reality and making it receptive to your long term design. You aren’t using this working to solve a problem, so much as create ideal circumstances for the realization of your goals and objectives.

There is a time and place for both types of workings and knowing when to do either type of working generally makes them more successful.

I do short term workings when a problem occurs that I couldn’t anticipate or when I need to adapt a quickly changing situation and get my path back on course. Short term workings are great for course correction and for problem solving because those one off workings help you adjust to circumstances you didn’t expect and yet need to work through and resolve.

I do long term magical workings when I can identify something I want to change in my life for the long term and I’m willing to commit to that change over the long haul. It’s a proactive approach to magic and life, where you figure out what you truly want and then start working for it. It’s a gradual process, but the more you work the magic, the more it accelerates what you want into your life.

When you are in a situation where you need decide what type of practical magic you’ll do, consider the situation itself as a way to identify what you need. Are you reacting to a problem that’s come up in your life or is the situation an opportunity that invites long term gains? The answer to question will dictate the type of magical working you want to do and help you start planning it out so you can either solve your problem or work toward your long term goal.
